05 Oct Meet FG Ringwood’s Dream Team!
Meet Francesco Group Ringwood’s Dream Team!
Barry Maddocks and Amy Sultan, based at Francesco Group Ringwood, have been trailblazers within the hair industry for the last few years. They are both finalists in this year’s Wella TrendVision awards and Barry spent last year as a member of Wella’s exclusive Generation Now! team, working alongside some of the best in the industry.
Amy has also been making her mark, she’s been a finalist at the British Hairdressing Awards for the past three years, an incredible achievement in itself! But the highlight of her career so far is being awarded Stylist of the Year at the British Hairdressing Business Awards 2017. Having conquered the Business side of hairdressing, this year she is putting all of her focus into the creative side.
Amy and Barry worked together this year to create a stunning collection that has seen them through to the finals of the British Hairdressing Awards 2018, the biggest night in the industry!
We spoke to Amy & Barry to find out how team work really makes this dream work!
What is your first memory of noticing really great hair?
Barry – Assisting on a photo shoot when I was training, I literally couldn’t believe how amazing and beautiful hair could be.
Amy – When I started in the industry I would see the amazing images in all the publications in the Salon, and the big posters in the Salon windows. I always knew I wanted to be a great hairdresser and to see my work there one day.
Why did you decide to apply for the BHA’s this year?
Barry – It has always been a dream of both of ours to enter the British Hairdressing Awards.
Amy – We work really well together in the Salon and have done shoots together before and had a lot of fun, so this year it seemed like the natural thing to do together as a team.
I always knew I wanted to be a great hairdresser and to see my work there one day.
Barry Maddocks, Regional Finalist at TrendVison 2018.
Who inspires you?
Amy – I think we inspire each other and we push each other to becoming better and better.
Barry – I totally agree, we make each other better hairdressers.
What makes you such a successful duo?
Amy – We understand each other’s way of thinking, we have a very similar taste in what we like and what we don’t like. We also support each other a lot, when one of us is stressing out the other one is there telling us to snap out of it!
Barry – We are also very honest with other and critique each other’s work. Even if it’s not what that person wants to hear.
We make each other better hairdressers!
Amy Sultan, Winner of Stylist of the Year 2017 at the British Hairdressing Business Awards.
What was the main inspiration behind your collection?
Barry – A big part of our collection this year has come from ideas that we have had together and have talked about over the last year or so.
Amy – We make sure we are working with both of our strengths, Barry’s exceptional eye for colour and my passion for styling hair.
What did you enjoy most about creating this shoot?
Amy – I loved collaborating as a team.
Barry – Yes, I enjoyed pushing both our skill sets in colouring and styling.
Can you give us a rough timeline and estimate for the time and planning that goes into creating a successful BHA shoot?
Barry – As soon as you decide you are going to enter the BHA’s, that’s all you think about, we are constantly sending images of inspiration to each other.
Amy – The fact that we work alongside each other on a day to day basis means we live and breathe it until the images are sent off!
We make sure we are working with both of our strengths, Barry’s exceptional eye for colour and my passion for styling hair.
What would be your primary piece of advice for someone wanting to enter the BHA’s next year?
Amy – Think quality, high standard, make sure you like your ideas and vision.
Barry – Have a strong team around you, it’s so important.
We wish Barry and Amy the best of luck with their entry, it’s clear from all of their previous success that they are ones to watch within the industry!
