HOW TO
TAKE CAREof Your Hair
WHEN YOU CAN’T VISIT YOUR SALON
We know that it is currently not possible to visit an FG salon in person, but this doesn’t mean that we can’t still be here for you digitally! We have the perfect tips to help you to achieve gorgeous locks, even when you can’t visit a salon.
We advise you on how to keep those split ends at bay, cover those roots and we tell you why you shouldn’t be using a box-dye, no matter how tempting it may be!
AVOIDShampooing Frequently
One good thing about not being able to leave the house? Rarely having to shampoo your hair! Only shampoo when you REALLY have to. The purpose of shampoo is to wash away dirt and product build-up, but it can also take essential natural oils that keep strands soft and healthy along with it. When you need to shampoo, be gentler on your hair by only lathering up at your scalp and then simply letting the suds slide down the strands, hitting the rest of the hair as the water rinses it out.
ALWAYSUse Conditioner
If your hair is wet, you have to condition it. Colouring, heat styling and blowdrying makes your hair strands thin; good conditioner helps to replace the liquids and proteins inside the hair shaft. It also seals the cuticle to help prevent more damage.
APPLYa Hair Mask
Apply a Hair or Oil Mask Treatment Every Two to Four Weeks
Hair that touches your shoulders or beyond can be several years old and most likely needs more TLC than a normal conditioner. We recommend using moisture-based masks and oils weekly. The oils are able to fill strands up with fatty acids and then, when rinsed out, using regular shampoo helps seal them inside the hair.
AVOIDBox-Dyes
Although box-dyes always seem like a good idea at the time, they are so much harsher on your hair than a professional colour. A professional hair colour is chosen for you as an individual; we are all unique and desire a different objective from our hair colours and our Colour Specialists are trained and experienced to create your own unique colour mixture to suit your needs. A box colour does not know if you need 100% grey coverage, if you need to lift your hair one or two shades lighter to achieve your desired look or if the box dye is sending your hair lighter or darker than your current colour. You may have a lot of warmth naturally present in your hair; a box colour doesn’t know this and cannot add more ash into the colour to create your own personal shade. We know at this time it is very tempting to colour your own hair, but it will take a lot of time and money to remove the build-up of colour from a box dye, once salons are open again. Just use this period as the chance to give your hair a little colour holiday!
ROOTCoverage
If you are getting worried about your roots, we recommend Magic Retouch by L’Oréal Paris; you can extend the life of your hair colour in just 3 seconds – it’s the perfect solution for concealing greys and roots with one quick spray.
The pinpoint micro-diffuser precisely targets greys and the rich colour pigments give you perfectly blended coverage – the only root concealer for when you’re on the go. For light blonde to black hair, Magic Retouch perfectly matches and blends with leading shades including salon colour.

HIDEYour Roots
Change your parting – If you have sleeker hair worn in a centre parting, a simple side parting can help to hide those sneaky roots showing through.
Wear your hair with more texture – If you have naturally curly or wavy hair, you are very blessed! Embracing your texture helps to hide those cheeky roots, the sleeker the hair the more visible they can be.
Wear your hair up in playful bun – For all you lovely ladies with long hair, wearing your hair in a high bun with a few tresses left out around the sides and front can be a great root concealer.
AVOIDSplit Ends
Ideally, the best way to avoid split ends is to have frequent haircuts, but products like the Kérastase Resistance Extentioniste range strengthens hair from the inside out, using powerful amino acids and ceramides to improve elasticity from root to tip. It targets weakened and brittle strands and the silky formula helps to rebuild the hair’s internal structure to make it more resistant to breakage, whilst creating a smooth and shiny surface.
WRAP YOUR HAIRin a Silk Scarf at Night
If you wrap your hair in a silk scarf or plait it every night, it will help you to avoid any damage from untangling your hair with a brush the following day. The silk scarf also allows your hair & scalp to breathe.
EATWell
At the moment, being healthy is more important than ever, and your diet plays a big part in building up your immune system and maintaining your health. Try increasing your protein intake with foods like fish, beans, nuts and whole grains.
We hope these tips keep your hair healthy until we can see you in the salon again!
